If Emiliano Grillo finishes at the top of the leaderboard this week at the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge, he will become the first golfer to win this event in consecutive years. Grillo will have to avoid several serious candidates if he wants to rewrite the history books. Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa and Max Homa are among the experienced players looking to dethrone Grillo and win the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge.
Play begins at Colonial Country Club on Thursday, May 23. Scheffler, the world’s No. 1 player, enters this week’s event as a 3-1 favorite according to the latest 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge odds. He is followed by Morikawa (14-1), Spieth (18-1) and Homa (22-1) on the PGA odds board. Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been on a roll since the PGA Tour restarted in June 2020. In fact, the model has won nearly $9,000 on its best bets since the restart, winning tournament after tournament.
McClure’s model correctly predicted that Scheffler would finish atop the leaderboard at the 2024 Masters, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit +9,000, and throughout the tournament, McClure’s best bets returned nearly $1,000. And at the 2024 PGA Championship, the model correctly classified Xander Schauffele’s first major win of the weekend.
The model also predicted that Rahm would be victorious in the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model surpassed Rahm’s second major career win over the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead in the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the model’s second consecutive victory at the Masters, which also guaranteed Scheffler’s victory in 2022.
Additionally, McClure’s best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing at the top of the table 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic rankings.
This same model also hit 12 majors over the weekend, including the last three Masters and the 2024 PGA Championship. Anyone who followed it saw massive returns.

Top Charles Schwab Challenge Predictions for 2024
A big surprise that the model is waiting for at the Charles Schwab Challenge 2024: Collin Morikawa, two-time main champion and one of the main favorites, stumbles and narrowly misses out on the top five. Morikawa is coming off a strong showing at the PGA Championship, where he secured T-4 at Valhalla. He has now finished in the top 10 in three of his last four singles starts on the PGA Tour, which includes a T-3 showing at the Masters in April.
However, Morikawa has won just once since capturing his second major title at the Open Championship in 2021 and has struggled at Colonial Country Club in recent years, finishing T-29 or worse in each of his last two starts. Morikawa enters the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge ranked 103rd in strokes gained: approach to green (-0.040) and 131st on greens in regulation percentage (64.13%). Colonial values sharp iron shots, which doesn’t bode well for Morikawa’s chances of finishing at the top of the leaderboard. See who else will disappear here.
Another surprise: Denny McCarthy, with a 50-1 chance, has a good campaign for the title. He has a much better chance of winning it all than his odds suggest, so he’s a target for anyone looking for a big payday. McCarthy is certainly capable of finishing near the top of the leaderboard this week.
The 31-year-old has played well in recent weeks, finishing T-6 or better in two of his last five PGA Tour starts. That impressive run includes a runner-up finish at the Valero Texas Open, where he lost in the playoffs to Akshay Bhatia. He managed to secure these positive results thanks to his impeccable putting. McCarthy enters this week’s event ranked first in strokes per round (27.31), third in strokes gained: putting (.768) and sixth in putting average (1.701). If he’s shooting the ball well this week, he’ll have a great chance of finishing at the top of the leaderboard in the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge. See who else can return here.
